City Council Parking Tickets
It is a prerequisite set by the City Council to pay for a parking ticket anytime you park in the CBD (Central Business District) and any other city council owned parking zones. This ticket must be displayed clearly on the vehicles front windscreen. There are three main different types of parking tickets available;

Daily – KES 140: Issued by an official city council attendant who are found near all parking zones
Monthly – KES 2000: This is paid and collected for from the City Council
Quarterly – KES 5500: This is paid and collected for from the City Council

Penalties

Clamping
Vehicle clamping is permitted as a fine in the whole of the city. The City Council attendants issue clamping notices for vehicles that are in violation of the parking regulations stated below. The attendants allow a minimum of 2 hours before a clamped car is towed away to the closest city council owned car pound. Any car that is clamped is to report to the City Council Customer Cash Office (located directly opposite the main City hall gates) with their clamping notice and pay clamping fees of KShs 2000 to the council. An attendant from the council will escort you to remove the clamp from your car.

Towing
The city council has been awarded the power and authority to tow away vehicles that have been abandoned, illegally parked on a public road or in a city council parking zone and are in violation of the parking regulations stated below. Vehicles are towed to a secure impound and a significant fee of anything between 2000 -10,000/-Ksh may be charged for their release and an extra 3000/- for day storage. You need to visit the city council parking complaints section (located at the City Council, ground floor next to the inoculation center, Room 40) and staff there will be able to tell you the location of the impound in which your car is being held.

NB: Failure to pay towing fees and other expenses incurred by the council within 60 days may lead to disposal of the vehicle, through public auction.
